All schools that were closed due to the wildfires will reopen on Monday, December 11.

The decision to reopen schools was based on improved air quality and the lifting of mandatory evacuations that affected school communities.

The safety of our students and employees is always top priority.

L.A. Unified crews are working through the weekend to install new air filters as needed and ensure that facilities are ready for teaching and learning to resume. Some outdoor activities may be limited until air quality returns to normal levels.

November is the month that Lawrence Middle School submits the names of eighth graders for the printing of culmination certificates. Parents will have the opportunity to request any changes that need to be made in advance. The deadline to turn in the name change card is November 15th. Please review the way your child’s name appears on the report cards, for this is the way it will be printed on the certificate. (e.g. Smith, John T. on report card will be printed John T. Smith on the certificate).  Please have your child come to the Counseling Office to pick up the OFFICIAL pink culmination name card form-FOR CHANGES ONLY- and return it to the office before the deadline. A parent’s signature is required. We will not be able to honor any requests received after the deadline.

parking.jpg

(Editor's Note: This important news element was published earlier on the school web site. Some community members have reported student safety concerns, particularly about the issue of students jaywalking or neglecting to look both ways before stepping into a crosswalk. Double parking is another concern as well.)

Streets adjacent to Lawrence Middle School will fill up with cars in a little more than one week as parents drop off and pick up students. Peak congestion times are 7:30-8:00 AM and 2:40-3:10 PM on Variel and Independence Avenues. Some parents have opted to arrive earlier or to drop off or pick up students on a close by street where there is less traffic. The speed limit in a school zone is 25 miles per hour. Double parking to drop off or pick up a student is prohibited and could result in the issuance of a parking ticket.

Please be very observant of pedestrian and bicycle traffic around the school. Two crosswalks are in front of the school entrance on Variel Avenue and are in heavy use at starting and dismissal times. Also, please be mindful of the parking restrictions in effect and posted on signs around the school.

News Update of September 19, 2016

Students must exercise caution whenever crossing a street. First, do not jaywalk--that is, cross a street where there is no crosswalk or clearly defined intersection. Second, when using a crosswalk, look both ways before attempting to cross, and pay attention to any signals at the intersection.

News Update of January 20, 2017

Lemarsh Street (north end of campus) has become a heavy traffic area both before and at the end of school. Please refrain from stopping in the middle of the street to pick up/drop off students.

News Update of May 15, 2017

Students must always exercise caution when crossing the street. Cross the street only at intersections with crosswalks. Look both ways before crossing.

Drivers are reminded that double parking to pick up a student can result in the issuance of a parking ticket.

The School Experience Survey (SES) provides valuable information to stakeholders about LAUSD schools. The School Experience Survey was developed with input from parents, teachers, unions, and community-based organizations. It documents the perceptions of parents, staff, and grade 3-12 students about their experience at our school.

For the first time, students will take the survey online between January 17 and February 7, 2017. Parents/guardians will receive an informational letter sent home with students which includes a survey document to complete and return to their child's advisory teacher. As an option, parents/guardians may complete the survey online instead by following the directions in the letter. Please note that only one parent survey is printed for each household and distributed to the oldest child.

Faculty and staff may complete online at anytime between January 17 and February 7, 2017.
