In December 2016, a special visitor arrived on our campus and introduced himself. His name is Mr. Love Collins III and he had something very special to share. He presented our principal, Ms. Marilu Pigliapoco, with the gavel he was given as our school's first student body president nearly 50 years ago! Read his wonderful recollection of events from long ago by clicking on the link below.

Next year in 2018, Lawrence will celebrate its 50th anniversary of opening. Mr. Collins indicated that he looks forward to attending the ceremony.

Principal's Desk

Dear Lawrence Middle School Community,

I am very pleased to say that our second semester for the 2016-2017 school year opened in a most orderly manner--thanks to the dedication and diligence of our outstanding staff. In the next few weeks, 5 week progress reports will be coming out and they will provide you with valuable information about your child's achievement thus far. On March 16, 2017, from 4:00-6:00 PM, we will be hosting Parent Conference Night. This is an important event which provides you with an opportunity to speak to your child's teachers about his/her academic achievement thus far.

In the next few weeks, we will start with our interim assessments in mathematics and English Language Arts. These assessments will be completed by students online. The assessments will measure students' progress on the Common Core standards  in these two academic areas as well as their levels of college and career readiness. The interim assessments must be completed in advance of the summative assessments in mathematics and English Language Arts.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) summative assessments will begin in late March or early April. They also will be completed online.  Students in 8th grade science classes will also be taking a new "pilot" Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) assessment.

We will be participating in the school district's Consolidated Charitable  Campaign starting on February 15, 2017. Please join us in this annual fundraising event for charitable organizations by considering making a donation.

Very truly yours,

Ms. Marilu Pigliapoco
